There are different storage locations available to users.

Note: IT Services are unable to backup data you store on your C drive (hard drive). Any data stored here that becomes lost or corrupted cannot be restored.

Your IT account has a default allocation of personal filespace on the University network. This filespace appears as the H:\ drive on any networked computer you log onto on campus and is accessible via Computer or Windows Explorer. You can also access your H:\ drive off campus on personal devices via MyApps.

Only you have access to your H:\ drive, via your login credentials and it should be used to store your personal work or study related data and, if you manage others, data associated with that role.

Examples of the sort of data you might store on H include:

  • Personal work-related: holiday record, job description, training/course materials/presentations, transient work data where you are not able to work online (e.g. if you are developing course materials, before publishing them on VLE)
  • If you manage other members of staff: job descriptions, appraisal information, disciplinary correspondence
  • Coursework or other study related materials

By default you are give 5GB of space on your H:\ Drive

Your H Drive files and folders can been restored to any hourly backed up version from the last 3 days and to any nightly backed up version in the last 28 days.

Files and folders that are created and subsequently deleted within the 24 hour period between backups are not retained.

The O Drive is currently being rolled out to all Schools and Departments.  ITS will be in touch to discuss when yours will be available.

The O Drive is your main School or Department file storage space, which can also be used to share and collaborate with other deparmtents. It is a secure area with restricted folders, managed by folder owners within the school/Department.

These filespaces are accessible via Computer or Windows Explorer. You can also access them off campus on personal devices via MyApps.

Your O Drive files and folders can been restored to any hourly backed up version from the last 3 days and to any nightly backed up version in the last 28 days.

The S Drive is the current department storage area. It will be phased out as all department data is migrated to the new O Drive.

Your S Drive files and folders can been restored to any hourly backed up version from the last 3 days and to any nightly backed up version in the last 28 days.

Staff and research students undertaking research can be allocated space on the R:\drive to manage their research data.
